Five Nights at Freddy's AR: Special Delivery (often shortened to Special Delivery, abbreviated to FNaF AR: SD and FNaF AR) is a 2019 augmented reality first-person survival horror video game developed by Illumix in collaboration with Scott Cawthon. It is the third spin-off of the Five Nights at Freddy's series, the first one being FNaF World, and second being Ultimate Custom Night. However, compared to the previous spin-offs, Special Delivery seems to be canon, taking place between Five Nights at Freddy's and the upcoming Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach.

Plot

It begins with a simple premise - signing up for the Fazbear Funtime Service so that "you'll never be alone again!"[1]. But as the story begins to unfold, players will realize that they may have signed up for more than they bargained for. Malfunctioning animatronics are delivered to their doorsteps for a series of frightening encounters. Clues to what's happening and how to deal with these glitches are sent by way of the Inbox.

Development

In August 2018, Scott Cawthon announced he made a deal with a AR game studio[2] stating that, "The AR game is well under way, and while I’m not going to reveal any gameplay details yet, I will say that the impending doom of something hunting you will keep you up at night."[3] The development team was later revealed to be California-based Illumix[4], On September 6, 2019 a teaser trailer[5] was uploaded for the game to Illumix's YouTube channel[6], followed by an announcement trailer [7]one week later on September 13, revealing the title.[8]

The game was released for free on iOS and Android on November 25, 2019.[9] The release included a trailer featuring Markiplier, a popular YouTuber well known for his various gameplays of Five Nights at Freddy's and FNAF-related fan games.[10]
