Micrelaps tchernovi, commonly known as Tchernov's chainling,[1] is a species of venomous rear-fanged snake in the family Atractaspididae. The species is endemic to the Middle East.[2]
Etymology
The specific name or epithet, tchernovi, is in honor of Israeli paleontologist Eitan Tchernov (1935-2002), who collected the holotype.[1][3]
Geographic range
M. chernovi is found in Israel and Jordan.[1]
Description
Dorsally, M. tchernovi has a pattern of 58 (on average) black saddle-like crossbands which fail to reach the ventrals. The crossbands are usually narrower than the light interspaces. Ventrally, it is all black.[1]
