Sigaus piliferus is a species of short-horned grasshopper in the family Acrididae. It is found in New Zealand.[1][2] Sigaus piliferus is restricted to alpine and sub-alpine habitats in North Island New Zealand.[3] This grasshopper species has two ecotypes - the shrubland form in the north with relatively long legs and the alpine form in the south.[4][3] The two ecotypes were probably isolated during the last glacial maximum but are now in contact in the central volcanic region of North Island.[3]
