The Dacia Spring Electric (internal code BBG)[2] is an all-electric city car manufactured by the Romanian car manufacturer Dacia produced since 2021. It was previewed by its concept model unveiled in March 2020.[3] At its introduction, it is the cheapest electric car in Europe.

Overview

The concept model of Spring Electric was unveiled on the web on 3 March 2020.[4] It was to be presented at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show but the entire show was canceled.[5] It has a gray body colour enhanced with neon orange accents on the rims, the door handles, the mirrors and the grille.[6][7]

The production model of Spring Electric was presented at Renault EWAYS conference on 15 October 2020 and marketed for early 2021.[8][2][9] It went on sale in March 2021.[10] Car-sharing services and cargo utility versions will also be launched later in 2021.[9] The deliveries for companies started in early 2021, while for private customers in autumn of 2021.[8]

The vehicle is heavily based on the Renault City K-ZE produced in China since 2019, which itself is based on the Renault Kwid produced in India and Brazil, and its made on the CMF-A platform.[11][12] In order to meet European safety standards, Spring Electric has been reengineered, featuring a reinforced chassis, six airbags and other assistance systems.[11][13]

Powertrain

The Spring Electric is equipped with a single electric motor rated at 44 hp (45 PS; 33 kW) and 125 N⋅m (12.7 kg⋅m; 92.2 lb⋅ft) of torque. The claimed acceleration figure of 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) is 19.1 seconds.[14] The electric motor is powered by a 27.4 kWh lithium-ion battery, permitting a claimed range of 230 km (143 mi) on the combined WLTP cycle and supports fast charging at a rate of up to 30 kW from a CCS DC charger.[15]
