The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 and its series are Android-based tablets developed and marketed by Samsung Electronics. Galaxy Tab S6 was announced on July 31, 2019, Galaxy Tab S6 5G was announced on January 29, 2020, Galaxy Tab S6 Lite was announced on April 2, 2020, Galaxy Tab S6 Lite 2022 was announced on May 14, 2022,[7][8] and Galaxy Tab S6 Lite 2024 was announced on March 26, 2024.[9]

The Tab S6, S6 5G and S6 Lite first received 3 OS upgrades, as announced on August 5, 2020.[10] The Tab S6 Lite 2022 and 2024 editions were extended to 4 OS upgrades as the Galaxy S22 and later devices did.[11]

Design

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 is built with an aluminum frame and a plastic back for the screen. It has stereo loudspeakers with AKG tuning. The S6 comes in Mountain Gray, Cloud Blue and Rose Blush, with the 5G model only available in Mountain Gray, and the S6 Lite series comes in Chiffon Pink, Angora Blue and Oxford Gray. A USB-C port is used for charging and connecting other accessories.[12][13]

Hardware

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon system-on-chip, with 4 GB, 6 GB or 8 GB of RAM and 64 GB, 128 GB, 256 GB of expandable UFS 3.0 internal storage.[6][14][13]

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 & S6 Lite family have a 7040 mAh battery, and is capable of fast charging at up to 15 W.[6][15][13]

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 features a 10.5-inch 2560 x 1600 Super AMOLED display. The display has a 16:10 aspect ratio. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2020, 2022 & 2024) features a 10.3-inch 2000 x 1200 TFT LCD display. The display has a 5:3 aspect ratio[6][12][13]

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 includes dual rear-facing cameras. The wide 26 mm f/2.0 lens 13-megapixel sensor, while the ultrawide f/2.2 lens has a 12-megapixel sensor; the front-facing camera uses an 8-megapixel sensor. It is capable of recording 4K video at 30 fps. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite family has a single wide 28mm f/1.9 lens 8-megapixel sensor; the front-facing camera uses a 32mm f/2.0 lens 5-megapixel sensor. It is capable of recording FHD video at 30 fps.[6][15][13]

All models of the tablet are compatible with the S Pen, which is included in the box.

Software

The Galaxy Tab S6 and S6 5G shipped with Android Pie (9.0) out-of-the-box with One UI 1.5.[16] While the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite was supposed to be released with the same Android version and One UI version, due to it being delayed all devices are now updated with One UI 2.1 (Android 10) instead. On 18 August 2020, both devices alongside a selection of other Samsung Galaxy devices, were extended to 3 years of OS upgrades and 4 years of security updates.[10] The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite 2022 shipped with Android 12 with One UI 4.1, and was extended to 4 years of OS updates and 5 years of security updates as with flagship devices sold from 2021 to 2023, mid-range devices sold from 2022 to 2024, rugged smartphones, tablets and smartwatches sold since 2021, and laptops sold since 2021.[11] The Galaxy S6 Lite 2024 shipped with Android 14 with One UI 6.1,[17] and will receive 4 years of OS updates and 5 years of security updates like with the Galaxy S6 Lite 2022 edition. All tablets of the S6 series include Samsung DeX.[18] So, with all three refreshed versions of the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, being schedule for release in 2020, 2022 and 2024 respectively, Samsung has promised 9 years of major Android OS updates and 1 additional year of security updates for a total of 10 years worth of updates.

End of software lifecycle

As of March 2024, the Galaxy Tab S6, S6 5G and Tab S6 Lite finally support Android 12L with One UI 4.1.1 and Android 13 and One UI 5.1.1 respectively, with the latter also being released with newer devices such as the Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 and Tab S9.[1][2] Later updates require the Tab S6 Lite 2022 edition as it first shipped with a newer version.

Lite version

The first version of the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite was first announced on April 2, 2020, with the 2022 and 2024 refreshed variants first announced on May 14, 2022[19][20] and March 26, 2024,[21] respectively. The Tab S6 Lite first received 3 OS upgrades, as announced on August 5, 2020. The Tab S6 Lite 2022 and 2024 editions were extended to 4 OS upgrades as the Galaxy S22 and later devices did.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite uses a 7040 mAh battery and supports fast charging up to 15 W. All versions of the S6 Lite have a 10.3-inch 2000 × 1200 TFT LCD display with a 5:3 aspect ratio, which distinguishes them from the standard Galaxy Tab S6 that uses a Super AMOLED panel.

The tablet includes an 8-megapixel rear camera with a wide f/1.9 lens, and a 5-megapixel front camera with an f/2.0 lens. It records video at up to 1080p and 30 fps. The S Pen is included in the box and works with every model in the S6 Lite line.

Due to a delay at launch, the original S6 Lite shipped with Android 10 and One UI 2.1, but Samsung committed to three years of operating system upgrades and four years of security updates. The 2022 revision launched with Android 12 and One UI 4.1, gaining four years of OS upgrades and five years of security support, matching recent Samsung flagships. The 2024 version arrived with Android 14 and One UI 6.1[22] and will receive 4 years of OS updates and 5 years of security updates like with the Galaxy S6 Lite 2022 edition. All versions of the S6 Lite include Samsung DeX.

As of March 2024, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite supports Android 12L with One UI 4.1.1.[23] Later updates require the Tab S6 Lite 2022 edition as it first shipped with a newer version.
