The Niroo Research Institute, also known as NRI (Persian: پژوهشگاه نیرو‎) is a governmental research institute in Tehran, Iran. It is the major research organization affiliated to the Ministry of Energy of Iran [1].

History

Niroo Research Institute (NRI) started its activities in 1997 and brought together its scientists and engineers as well as experts from academia and industry [2]. The main building and laboratories of this institute are located in the north-west of Tehran, in a block of land with about 140,000 m2 area [1].

Sections

Niroo Research Institute consists of five centers:

  • Control and Network Management
  • Power Generation
  • Power Transmission and Distribution
  • Energy and Environment
  • Center for Materials Chemistry

It has also 21 research groups that are working in the power industry projects. The number of active laboratories in the Niroo Research Institute reached 23 laboratories and among them, 12 laboratories are active as reference laboratories [3].

Research activities

Its research activities are as follows [2]:

  • Performing basic, applied and developing research projects with the aim of achieving required technical knowledge of Ministry of Energy regarding the permanent development principle
  • Performing necessary activities for the sake of applying research results in the industry and commercializing them
  • Making the connection to internal and external research institutes for achieving the most recent technologies by holding scientific conferences, carrying out research projects together
  • Making a connection with professional and innovative forces and providing necessary facilities for them according to our objectives
  • Studying and investigating how to make power plants, substations, and transmission lines and how to remove the basic and technical requirements of them
