Battle Chess: Game of Kings is a video game developed by Olde Skuul for publisher Interplay Entertainment. The Early access version was released on Steam on March 16, 2014. A complete version of the game was released on December 12, 2015. It is a remake of the 1988 video game Battle Chess, which was co-developed by Interplay and Blizzard Entertainment. The game is graphically updated from the original Battle Chess and features many new styles of gameplay.

Gameplay

The game is played via turn-based multiplayer and allows the player to compete at a scalable difficulty against the computer, or against live opponents via the internet. The game features three unique battlegrounds in which players can earn achievements, test skill challenges, enter Battleground Training and use the Combat Vault to unlock and view battles from different angles.

Development

Previously known as Battle Chess 2011,[1] the game was first announced in 2011 by Interplay Entertainment to have development under Subdued Software for the PC. The game's development nearly reached two years with both Interplay and Subdued releasing concept art and screenshots of the game on Facebook. It was then revealed that due to financial irregularities within Subdued Software, the game would be needed to be put on Kickstarter.[2] Subdued Software has revealed that the game is possible to be ported to the Xbox 360, Android devices, OSX and iOS if the Kickstarter funding exceeds its goal. They also launched a trailer for the game, announced that they had professional voice artists for the game as well as an original musical score, fully articulated 3D models and online multiplayer.[3] The Kickstarter campaign did not exceed the goal on 1 June 2012.[4]

Game development was transferred to a company called Olde Skuul[5] and was released on Steam early access on March 16, 2014. A full version of the game was launched on Steam on December 12, 2015.[6]
