Dance Dance Revolution S (ダンスダンスレボリューションS, Dansu Dansu Reboryūshon Esu), commonly abbreviated as DDR S, is a rhythm game by Konami available for the iOS, as part of the company's Dance Dance Revolution series of music video games. Announced by Konami in January 2009, the game was made available via Apple's App Store in Japan on February 27, 2009. It was later made available in the United States and Europe on March 5, 2009 and May 14, 2009 respectively.

While gameplay is very similar to other Dance Dance Revolution titles, a new mode dubbed "Shake Mode" is available in which players are able to shake their device in certain directions to the rhythm of the music.

Development

Dance Dance Revolution S was announced alongside several other adaptations of Konami franchises to the iOS platform in January 2009.[1] A free preview version was also released, Dance Dance Revolution S Lite, which features one song and served as a preview for the final version and as a demo.[1] The final version was released in the Japanese App Store on February 27, 2009.[2] On October 5, 2009, Dance Dance Revolution S+, a sequel with in-app song purchasing, was released by Konami.

Gameplay

Gameplay remains similar to other Dance Dance Revolution games, as players hit arrows to the beat of a selected song. Unlike other DDR titles, Dance Dance Revolution S uses a virtual dance pad on the device's touch screen instead of a full-fledged dance pad peripheral.[1] Standard and course modes are available from the start, and an option, "Shake Mode", which uses the device's accelerometers for play.[2]

Music

Dance Dance Revolution S+

Unlike DDR S, only 3 songs are actually default and bundled with DDR S+. Instead, the player may purchase packs which contains 3-5 songs each from app store. Currently, there are 67 purchasable song packs containing a total of 219 songs as of February 14, 2011. More songs to purchase are coming soon.
