Granblue Fantasy: Relink[lower-alpha 2] is an action role-playing game by Cygames as part of the Granblue Fantasy franchise. The game was released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Windows on February 1, 2024. It received positive reviews from critics.

Development and release

Granblue Fantasy: Relink was announced under the title of Granblue Fantasy Project Re: Link in August 2016, to be developed by a collaboration between PlatinumGames and Cygames. Some of the game's staff include composers Nobuo Uematsu and Tsutomu Narita, and artist Hideo Minaba.[1] In September 2016, the game was announced for PlayStation 4 and to be released in 2018 at Sony's Tokyo Game Show press conference.[2] The game is set in the same fictional realm as the original Granblue Fantasy but takes place in a different location, although some characters from the original game will appear.[3]

The first public gameplay was shown at GranBlue Fes 2017.[4] Granblue Fantasy Series Director Tetsuya Fukuhara described some gameplay details - the game includes four person co-operative multiplayer, or, single person play with three AI characters.[5] Its official title, Granblue Fantasy: Relink, was revealed in December 2018.[6]

By February 2019, PlatinumGames was no longer involved in the project, leaving Cygames to handle the rest of development.[7] Yasuyuki Kaji, an employee of PlatinumGames and the director of Relink since the beginning of development, remained working on the game with Cygames as its director to completion.

After not releasing in 2018 as planned, the game was scheduled to be released in 2022,[8] but was once again delayed to 2023,[9] then was finally delayed to February 1, 2024.[10] A playable demo was released on January 11, 2024.[11]

Id, one of the game's original characters, can be unlocked as an premium avatar by linking their save data to Granblue Fantasy Versus.[citation needed]

Reception

Granblue Fantasy: Relink received "generally favorable" reviews from critics, according to review aggregator website Metacritic.[12]
