The Subaru Solterra (Japanese: スバル・ソルテラ Subaru Sorutera) is an upcoming all-electric compact crossover SUV manufactured by Subaru.[1] It will be the first Subaru vehicle to be built on the "e-Subaru Global Platform" (e-SGP) jointly developed with Toyota, which in turn is also known as the e-TNGA.[2] The joint development allowed the Solterra to share the same bodywork with the related Toyota bZ4X.[3] The Solterra is scheduled to go on sale in mid-2022 in Japan, US, Canada, Europe and China.[4]
The name "Solterra" is coined from a combination of the word "sol" and "terra", the Latin words for the "sun" and the "earth" respectively.[5][6]
