Carcharocles is an extinct genus of sharks, belonging to the order Lamniformes.[1] They lived from the Late Eocene to the Late Pliocene. The genus usually includes the species informally known as Megalodon (i.e., Carcharocles megalodon); however, some taxonomic authorities place that species in various other genera.[2] Some authors consider the genus Carcharocles a subgenus of Otodus.[3]

- Carcharocles sokolovi Late Eocene to Early Oligocene, 35 to 30 Ma Jaekel, 1895
- Carcharocles auriculatus (type), Late Eocene to Late Oligocene, 35 to 25 Ma (Blainville, 1818)
- Carcharocles angustidens, Early Oligocene to Early Miocene, 33 to 22 Ma (Agassiz, 1843)
- Carcharocles chubutensis, Oligocene to Pliocene, 28 to 5 Ma (Ameghino, 1901)
- Megalodon (Carcharocles megalodon), Early Miocene to Late Pliocene, 23 to 3.6 Ma (Agassiz, 1843) (genus disputed)
