Grendel is a mail/news reader by the Mozilla project written entirely in the Java programming language. Its goal is to be a true cross-platform application with a feature set that satisfies the power user.

History

Grendel was originally developed as a part of the Xena project at Netscape Communications, also dubbed "Javagator" by the media. This project was cancelled before completion after 3 years of development; but after the source for Grendel was released, other people started to work toward completing it.[1][when?] It appears that the project has seen no activity since 2005, as evidenced by the project's homepage.
