OvenMediaEngine (OME) is an open-source streaming server with sub-second latency developed and operated by AirenSoft. The first update to this server was released as open-source via GitHub on May 23, 2019.[1].

Overview and Characteristic

OME is a free and open-source streaming server suite for live streaming with sub-second latency, mostly written in C++[3]. And OME can receives a video/audio, video, or audio source from encoders and cameras such as OBS, XSplit, etc., to WebRTC, RTMP, SRT, MPEG-2 TSBeta, or RTSPBeta as Input. Then, OME transmits this source using WebRTC, Low Latency MPEG-DASH (LLDASH; CMAF), MPEG-DASH, and HLS as output[6][7][8].

Be introduced

As AirenSoft (with OME), the developer of OME, participated in exhibitions such as KOBA Show in Seoul, South Korea[9], NAB Show in Las Vegas, USA[10], and IBC Show in Amsterdam, Netherlands[11][12], and AirenSoft (with OME) became a member of the SRT Alliance (in March 2019[13][14][15]), OME is open-source but gradually became known to the world.

History

OME started as a small project by AirenSoft but is growing thanks to the help of many online contributors and AirenSoft's enterprise-wide investment rapidly. The first version was released on May 23, 2019[1], and since then, OME has been continuously updated with a focus on bugs, issues, and performance improvements[16]. OME also supports various input/output protocols with three major updates[17][18][19] since release. And OME has been certified SRT Ready[20] with an SRT input update[19].
