In enzymology, a methylglyoxal reductase (NADH-dependent) (EC 1.1.1.78) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reaction

(R)-lactaldehyde + NAD+ [math]\displaystyle{ \rightleftharpoons }[/math] methylglyoxal + NADH + H+
