iOS 17 (derivative for iPhone) |
iPadOS 17 is the fifth and current major release of the iPadOS operating system developed by Apple for its iPad line of tablet computers. The successor to iPadOS 16, it was announced at the company's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 5, 2023 and was released on September 18, 2023 along with iOS 17.
iPadOS 17 drops support for the first-generation iPad Pro, and the fifth-generation iPad, making it the first version of iPadOS to require Apple Pencil compatibility on iPads, as well as the first version of iPadOS to drop support for an iPad Pro.
The first public beta was released on July 12, 2023 and the final version was released on September 18, 2023.

Supported devices
iPadOS 17 requires an A10 chip or newer, which means it drops support for iPad models with A9[2] and A9X[3] chips, officially marking the end of support for non-Apple Pencil compatible iPads.[4] iPadOS 17 is also the first iPadOS version to drop support for an iPad with the largest 12.9-inch display and Apple Pencil compatibility. This also marks the third time Apple has dropped 64-bit devices.
Those using A10[5] or A10X[6] SoC have limited support.
Those using A12,[7] A12X,[8] A12Z,[9] or A13[10] SoC get additional features that are unavailable on older models.
Those using A14[11] or A15[12] SoC have almost full support.
Those using M1[13] or M2[14] SoC get full support.
