Short description: Operation selecting a specific outcome in a measurement

← Back to Measurement techniques

Projection is the process by which a quantum system is reduced to a specific state during a measurement.

File:Quantum projection.png

Projection selects a specific outcome from possible states.

Description

During measurement, a system transitions to a state consistent with the observed outcome. This selection process is described as projection.

Properties

  • selects a state
  • linked to measurement
  • reduces possible outcomes
